While there is much debate concerning the constitution of the human person in contemporary theology (whether bipartite or tripartite), I find it most helpful to see the human person as consisting of body, soul and spirit. This helps us understand what it means to see the pastor as a shepherd of souls. In this lecture we will explore the dimensions of this idea as we seek to relate the pastoral task to the nature of the soul.
